Calcium Citrate and Vitamin D3 is used to prevent or treat low blood calcium levels in people who do not get enough calcium from their diets. CANTRIC may be used to treat conditions caused by low calcium levels such as osteoporosis, rickets, hypoparathyroidism, and latent tetany. CANTRIC may also be used to make sure you are getting enough calcium (for example, women who are pregnant, nursing, or postmenopausal, people taking certain medications such as phenytoin, phenobarbital, or prednisone). Calcium plays a very important role in the body and is needed for the normal functioning of nerves, cells, muscles, and bones. If there is not enough calcium in the blood, the body will take calcium from the bones, which can weaken the bones. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium and phosphorus. Getting enough vitamin D, calcium and phosphorus is important for
building and maintaining strong bones.
